The Community Power Coalition’s manifesto for the 2024 EU elections

As Europe grapples with the devastating impacts of the climate crisis, increasing carbon inequality, and the rising cost of living, immediate and transformative action is imperative. Our manifesto is a clear call to action for policy-makers, highlighting the pivotal role of community energy in addressing the poly-crisis facing our continent.

The manifesto envisions a decentralised and 100% renewable energy system that prioritises the needs and participation of people. It embodies the principles of democracy within the energy sector, ensuring that it is not just for the people, but by the people.

Our demands:

• Full transposition of Renewables Energy Directive II & III (RED) and the Internal Electricity Market Design (IEMD), and implementation of enabling frameworks for community energy;
• Introduction of specific national targets and measures for community energy in National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP);
• Financially support local communities in the development of Renewable Energy Communities;
• Empower local authorities to support local renewable energy communities;
• Unleash the potential of local community energy projects to address social challenge.
